IMW Business-Mediation Summit (Where Business meets the Law)
India has a backlog of 2.8 crore cases with Delhi High Court saying that it will take us more than 464 years to clear this backlog. The quality of judicial processes and efficiency of court systems have been primarily responsible for India’s dismal ranking on the ease of doing business index.
In order to improve the state of access to justice and ease of doing business rank of India, the Government of India has been focusing on strengthening Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms. An ordinance was promulgated in May 2018 to amend the Commercial Courts’ Act, 2015 which makes Pre-Institutional Mediation mandatory for certain commercial disputes.
In furtherance of Government’s vision to promote mediation in India, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences Kolkata (NUJS) organize Indian Mediation Week (IMW), a pan India mediation awareness campaign, in collaboration with ODRways which is in the list of top 12 ADR centers of India recognized by Department of Justice, Government of India.
The campaign is supported by Ministry of Law and Justice Government of India, and Hon’ble Justice Madan Lokur, Supreme Court Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee. Click here to find more about the last edition of IMW.
In the last one year, the Indian Mediation Week campaign has spread to 102 cities across India and directly sensitized more than 2,00,000 people about the benefits of mediation. IMW has launched the first of its kind online platform, Mediation Embassy, where you can track the level of mediation awareness in each city.
