[If cow protection is the only symbol that unifies Hindus then every Hindu shall surely take it into cognizance to keep the faith in religion alive.]
Cow has been a sacred animal in Hindu culture which according to its mythology has been portrayed with God Krishna. The serene nature of this auspicious animal is always compared to a mother. Dairy products are used in abundance worldwide. The purity of the animal is such that even its dung and urine have medicinal values and are used in Indian households.
The cow protection movement was initiated in British India under the surveillance of Swami Dayanand Saraswati demanding the end of cow slaughter.
From the moment the movement set off, it resulted in many inter-communal riots in the country due to strong oppositions by the minorities. Many minorities in India for example, Muslims, Christians and lower-caste Hindus consume beef. First of all, cows are cheaper in price and second, that with time the minorities have developed a mindset that they have a right on consumption of beef and giving up on consumption will mean lowering down their prestige.
The protection movement at that time and even today is seen by minorities as a Hindu- oppression tool. This vision has to be directed on a right path. In my view, India (a Hindu Nation) is the only country which shows the essence of democracy at its first glace. So much liberal in its thoughts, so much lenient to the wrongdoers, India is the best example of Secularism. Yes! I feel cow slaughter is a sin and it should be banned. Every other religion in the country has strict norms and the followers adhere to them. If cow protection is the only symbol that unifies Hindus then every Hindu shall surely take it into cognizance to keep the faith in religion alive.
Some readers might be thinking that I am a conservative but its just like that I am taking a stand. But surely, I am totally against the culture of Cow Vigilantism. The following headlines give me reasons to rethink that is it the same great country that I was talking about above:
- Cow vigilantes attack truck carrying cows, block highway!!!
- Cow vigilance in Rajasthans Barmer: Seven policemen including SHO removed !!!
- Rajasthan announces reward on “gau rakshaks” who lynched man, files murder case!!!
Violence by humans upon humans “regardless of the reason being sacred or profane” is inhumane.
For that, effective legal enforcement units are required. Article 21 of the Constitution says that the rule of law has to be maintained and one cannot take the law into their own hands. Human life is sacred and the holiness of cow should not supersede the humans life.
Crimes are being done in the country in the name of cow vigilance.
Irony here is that courts shouldn’t have to ask governments to protect peoples lives or to enforce the law, those are the fundamental moral and legal obligations all democratically elected governments owe to the people they govern but here in India, political parties are rather using it as a tool for their vote bank.
Killing of humans is resulting in diminishing of the sanctity of holy cow which is an urgent need to be stopped. The questions arise that whether for the first time ever the Hindus take a stand for their religion and that too in a fully legal manner? Will the minorities try to break down their ego respecting the religion of their Hindu neighbors?
