The Institute of Law, Kurukshetra University Kurukshetra, has the unique distinction of being the 1st Law School in Haryana to start a five- year integrated BA.LLB. (Honors) course in 2001 and have now entered its 17th year of imparting excellence in legal education. It has been ranked 20th Best Law Institute in India by India Today- Nielsen Survey in 2014. The Institute of Law aims to develop in the student’s social and scientific research skills so as to enhance in them a sense of responsibility to serve the society as professionals. Besides classroom teachings, the Institute of Law provides the students an opportunity to hone their skills by participating in several academic, co-curricular and extra –curricular events. Today while some of the alumni of the Institute are working in different fields which cover Premier Law Firms, National and International, Leading Public Sector Undertakings, Judicial & Civil services, others are pursuing higher education from reputed universities.

The Institute of Law is housed in its own building on the university campus, the foundation-stone of which was laid down by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Dr. A.S. Anand, the then Chief Justice of India. Situated in a compact area of 60,000 square feet, the building complex possesses a state-of–the–art infrastructure, well-equipped with modern amenities to create a dynamic environment and to nourish with a world-class experience. The infrastructure includes air conditioned smart classroom, moot court room, computer lab and a plenty of open space which creates a vibrant ambiance highly congenial for the professional growth and development of students.
The state–of the choicest–the-art library has a capacity to house 10,000 books and over 24 journals including Harvard Law Review, Modern Law Review, Yale Law Journal for the intellectual requirements. Complete with Wi-Fi, the Institute also provides the students with access to several online legal databases such as Manupatra, Westlaw, Hein online, Jstor etc. thereby enabling legal research around the clock. The library receives 8 national newspapers on regular basis. The study resources choices publications of reference books, law reports, digests, encyclopedias, manuals, journals etc.
The Institute has a fully air conditioned computer lab equipped with adequate number of terminals with latest configuration and more than 30 computers with internet connectivity for the use of students, teachers and staff working in the Institute. The lab has WI FI with 24×7 internet connection.
The Institute boasts of a modern, fully air conditioned and spacious Moot Court Room for the purpose of conducting Moot Court competitions which help the law students in perfecting their legal analytical, research and writing skills that practicing attorneys must have. Moot court competitions make students more comfortable arguing in front of judges and more confident public speakers.
The University at present has 25 Hostels (11 for Boys, 1 for foreign male students and 13 for Girls) on the sprawling campus of the University. These hostels have capacity to accommodate 2700 boys and 3000 girls. Providing a comfortable and safe atmosphere to the students, the hostel facilities on the campus make it easy for the students to find a home away from their homes. The Girl’s Hostels provide all important facilities within the complex. Each hostel on the campus operates its own mess providing hygienic and nutritious meals with a varied menu. In view of the large number of applicants seeking hostel accommodation, the University allots hostels to the students on the basis of their merit in the admission list. Hostels have reading rooms, Computer Lab., Common Rooms, Common Gym and Indoor & outdoor Games facilities. The University has also made available the facility to hostlers for parking their vehicles in the Central Parking near their hostels. The Hostels are also provided with round the clock ambulance services and a dispensary.
The University Health Centre looks after the medical needs of the students, staff and their families. Facilities for protective inoculation exist in Health Centre. Complete Physiotherapy unit, ECG, X-ray, Round the clock Ambulance facilities adequate laboratory facilities, Auto Analyzer facilities, Ultrasound facilities, Computerized ECG, EEG are also available in the Health Centre. The University has more than 48 private Doctors with different specializations on its panel for consultation free of cost.
Faculty and Academics
The Faculty at the Institute of Law comprises of an experienced, dynamic and visionary Director Prof. Raj Pal Sharma and well-qualified professors belonging to diverse academic backgrounds with a great amount of expertise in their respective fields. The vast pool of knowledge and experience of faculty members is one of the greatest assets of the Institute. The Institute also invites visiting and guest faculty members from other departments.
With a total student intake of 120 per year, the Institute of Law boasts of a student capacity close to 600 students enrolled in the integrated five year B.A.LLB (Honors) program. The Institute follows a bi-semester for the B.A.LLB (Honors) program and the year is divided into two semesters of approximately 110-120 working days. In each semester students are taught six courses which are a mix of law and social science subjects. The holistic teaching methodology involves the use of smart class room, project works, seminar presentations, internal moot court competitions, court visits, client counseling, group discussion, debate, quiz competitions and training in language and computer proficiency. The faculty prepare extensive teaching materials which is revised and updated regularly. In each semester, a student has to undergo mid-term and end-term examinations, along with project works, seminars (written and presentation).

There is a cafeteria just at the backside of the Institute of Law running on No profit- No loss basis. There is a river side park near Institute to spend the evenings with cool breeze.
Student Culture and Activities
Learning beyond classroom is an equally important dimension of education at the Institute of Law. This section covers different academic, co-curricular and extra-curricular events organized at the Institute of Law in the recent past. Various National Seminars, Workshops, Guest Lecture Series, Intra & Extra Moot Court Competitions are a regular feature of the Institute of Law. A three-day Law Fest is a regular feature of the Institute of Law which is an academic cum cultural event. It is held in the month of February or March every year. Law Fest provides a platform to the students to showcase their talent. Moot Court Competition, Debate, Quiz, Extempore, Skit, Painting, Rangoli, Flower-Arrangement Competitions, Singing and Dance Competitions are the main attractions of the Law Fest.
Blood Donation Camps: The students of the Institute of Law have participated from time to time in the various blood donation camps organized by Red Cross Society , NSS and various NGOs.
NSS & NCC: The students are provided with opportunities to serve the society and thus nation through National Service Scheme and National Cadet Corps.
The Legal Aid Cell of the Institute of Law regularly organizes legal aid and literacy camps to create legal awareness regarding social problems. So far 20 legal literacy camps have been organized in nearby villages & undeveloped areas. A few legal literacy camps were organized in educational institutes which include National Institute of Technology (NIT), Kurukshetra, Institute of Hotel Management, Dr. BR Ambedkar College of Education and Dayanand Mahila Mahavidayala, Kurukshetra.
A new initiative taken by the Institute of Law at the behest of the UGC is to select a few students of the Institute as Gender Champions to promote the cause of gender equality in the Institute and the surrounding areas.
The Placement Cell provides career guidance and facilitates corporate interaction to the University students and more so for students enrolled in the professional courses. The cell is headed by Placement Officer and there are teacher Coordinators at departmental level. It Coordinates and organizes campus interviews/placement drives/summer internship etc. The Cell also organizes and coordinates Personality Development, Soft Skills Development, Entrepreneurship Development Programs, Executive Meets, Motivational Talks and other activities related to the career and personal development of the students.
Students are provided with various opportunities at Institute level as well as University level. Adventurous trips, Leadership development programs for youth, various monetary schemes for students are best things. The Institute is located in one of the Asia’s Green campus.
Lack of volunteerism among students, sometime results in delay in conducting good programs.
