Students for the Promotion of International Law (SPIL), Mumbai invites participation of Law Schools across India to participate in the Judgment Deliberation Competition, 2020, in furtherance of the initiative to bring to the legal fraternity a fresh approach to problem analysis and judgment making, requiring participants to, upon analysis of facts presented and arguments advanced, arrive at a unique judgment that is infallible in law, rational in thought, and innovative in its essence.

About the Competition

The Judgment Deliberation Competition (JDC) © expects participants to arrive at a judgment, after analysis of facts and arguments presented from both the sides. A novel competition, the JDC has been inspired by the procedures of various judicial bodies and tribunals that span the spectrum of international law.

It involves students coming together to have a careful discussion on the given problem in order to arrive at an appropriate judgement. Students conduct extensive research and justify their views, before arriving at a judgement.

Date and Venue

The Judgment Deliberation Competition will be held on 6th and 7th March 2020 at Government Law College, Mumbai.

Eligibility

Students of any university on a full-time or part-time basis in any formally recognized university, in a 3- year LLB or a 5-year Integrated BA/BBA/BSC/BCOM/BLS LLB course at the time of the competition are eligible to compete in the Competition.

Team Composition

Each team will consist of One Participant Judge, and One Judicial Clerk. The Participant Judge will deliver the judgment, while the judicial clerk will merely assist. The roles of Judge and Judicial clerk are interchangeable; however, this change may be affected only at the commencement of the next round of the competition.

Awards

  • Winning Team – INR 20,000
  • Runners-Up – INR 14,000
  • Best Written Judgment –INR 10,000

Registration

The Registration fee for Judgment Deliberation Competition 2020 is 4000 INR per team for all the invited Indian Universities/Colleges. Payment details are mentioned in the document marked as ‘Rules’ within this post.
