International Conference on Contemporary International Legal Order Inaugurated at Law Centre-II, University of Delhi

International law conference inaugurated at DU Law Centre-II with Justice Manmohan, Justice Arun Singh Deshwal and global scholars.

New Delhi | February 22, 2026 : Law Centre II, University of Delhi successfully inaugurated the International Conference on “The Contemporary International Legal Order: Prospects for India” at Umang Bhawan on Saturday, bringing together eminent judges, global academicians, and legal scholars to deliberate on India’s evolving role in the international legal system.

The inaugural ceremony commenced at 10:00 AM and marked a significant academic engagement on contemporary challenges in international law, multilateralism, global governance, and India’s jurisprudential contributions at the global stage.

Supreme Court Judge Delivers Chief Guest Address

The conference was inaugurated by Justice Manmohan, Judge, Supreme Court of India, who delivered the Chief Guest Address. Emphasising the growing relevance of international legal norms, Justice Manmohan highlighted the need for India to assert principled leadership in shaping international law while safeguarding constitutional values and sovereign interests.

The Guest of Honour, Justice Arun Singh Deshwal, Judge, Allahabad High Court, underlined the increasing interface between domestic courts and international legal obligations, stressing judicial responsibility in harmonising international commitments with national legal frameworks.

Presidential, Keynote and Distinguished Addresses

The Presidential Address was delivered by Prof. Anju Vali Tikoo, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, who reaffirmed the University’s commitment to fostering rigorous academic dialogue on international law and policy.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Prof. Shirley Scott, University of New South Wales, Australia. She provided comparative insights into international legal orders, global governance institutions, and the shifting dynamics of state responsibility.

The Distinguished Address was delivered by Prof. Upendra Acharya, Gonzaga University, USA, who examined India’s emerging role in international adjudication, treaty interpretation, and global legal diplomacy.

Academic Leadership and Organising Team

The Welcome Address was delivered by Prof. Anupam Jha, Professor-in-Charge, Law Centre-II, who outlined the objectives of the conference and its relevance in contemporary global legal discourse.

The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof. Pinki Sharma, Conference Director and Professor, Law Centre-II, acknowledging the contributions of speakers, delegates, and the organising committee.

The conference is being organised by a dedicated committee comprising faculty members and scholars of Law Centre-II, University of Delhi, reflecting the institution’s sustained engagement with international legal scholarship.
