New Delhi, December 28, 2025: Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University (DBRANLU), Sonepat, Haryana, achieved a historic milestone by successfully conducting its First Convocation Ceremony at the prestigious Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi. The event marked a defining moment in the university’s institutional journey and celebrated the academic accomplishments of its first graduating batches.

The convocation was graced by Justice Surya Kant, Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India, as the Chief Guest. His august presence, along with Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Augustine George Masih, Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court of India, lent exceptional dignity and prestige to the ceremony.

The event was also attended by Mahipal Dhanda, Hon’ble Education Minister of Haryana, and Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Hon’ble Senior Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Degrees Awarded to the First Two Graduating Batches

The convocation celebrated students from the 2019–2024 and 2020–2025 batches, marking the successful graduation of the university’s pioneering cohorts. The ceremony reflected DBRANLU’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence, constitutional values, and nation-building.

Students who demonstrated outstanding academic merit and excellence in various fields were honoured with medals and citations, recognizing their dedication and scholarly achievements.

Inspiring Convocation Address by Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India

Delivering the keynote address, Hon’ble the Chief Justice of India, Mr. Justice Surya Kant, described the convocation as not merely a celebration of academic success but as a moment of deep introspection and acceptance of greater professional responsibility.

Addressing the graduating students as the university’s foundational batches, His Lordship observed that their professional conduct, integrity, and values would play a decisive role in shaping the legacy and reputation of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University for generations to come.

Emphasizing the evolving and human-centric nature of law, His Lordship remarked:

“Law is not merely a set of provisions, but a process of understanding society.”

He urged young legal professionals to regard legal education as a lifelong pursuit, requiring a profound understanding of human behaviour, social realities, and institutional dynamics. The Chief Justice cautioned that the most rigorous lessons of law are learnt beyond classrooms through real-world challenges involving clients, conflicts, institutions, and consequences.

In the context of rapid technological advancement, complex economic systems, expanding rights discourse, and rising public expectations, His Lordship stressed that lawyers must offer not only effective legal arguments but also ethical, responsible, and compassionate counsel. He called upon graduates to uphold patience, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to equity, so that their careers meaningfully contribute to nation-building and the constitutional vision of India.

Vice-Chancellor Reaffirms DBRANLU’s Academic Vision

Addressing the convocation, Prof. (Dr.) Devinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor of National Law University, Sonepat, articulated the university’s mission to promote excellence in legal education, innovation in research, and the nurturing of future legal leaders.

“Our objective is not merely to impart legal education, but to develop sensitive, ethical, and responsible legal professionals,” he stated.

He further highlighted DBRANLU’s commitment to preparing students to meet global legal challenges while remaining firmly rooted in constitutional values and social justice.

Eminent Dignitaries Applaud DBRANLU’s Growth

The ceremony witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including Justice Ashok Jain of Rajasthan High Court, Justice Saurabh Banerjee of the Delhi High Court, and Jyotsna Sharma of the National Company Law Tribunal, along with senior IAS officers, faculty members, and university staff.

Hon’ble Education Minister Mahipal Dhanda commended the university’s quality legal education and research-driven approach, expressing confidence that DBRANLU would continue to nurture legal professionals grounded in constitutional morality and social justice.

MLA Krishna Gahlawat described the university as a source of regional pride, stating that DBRANLU graduates would make meaningful contributions to the justice delivery system across the country.

In the concluding remarks and vote of thanks, Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Mishra, Registrar, DBRANLU, emphasised the administration’s continued commitment to providing a safe, disciplined, and modern academic environment. He underscored that transparent governance, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and a student-centric approach form the foundation of the university’s functioning.
