About the Essay Competition

The Central Library of SMVD University (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, J&K) is the organizing National Essay Writing Competition 2018. The Competition is a National level essay writing competition which is organized in an effort to harness the energy, creativity, and initiative of the students.

About the organizer

The Central Library, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVD), Katra, Jammu & Kashmir was established on August 19th, 2004 with only 2000 books and within a short span of time the Library has acquired more than 47,000 books and 3000+ CD/DVD collections. The Central Library collection encompasses Management, Economics, Engineering, Architecture, Sciences, Philosophy, Culture, Religion, English, Dogri & Hindi Literature, etc.

The Library provides access to more than 9000 online Journals and e-Resources of International publications through eShodhSindu Digital Library Consortium, INFLIBNET (Information and Library Networking) and also has subscription-based e-Resourced from various suppliers and renowned publishers.

The library is also a member of Developing Library Network (DELNET). The Library is also actively depositing quality Ph.D. Thesis to the repository of Shodhganga of INFLIBNET Centre. INFLIBNET is an autonomous Inter-University Centre of UGC.

Eligibility

The competition is open for all the students pursuing Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses in Indian Colleges/Universities.

The topics for essay writing competition are:

• Digital Economy: Opportunities and Challenges
• Social Media: A Two Edge Knife

Prizes

The deserving essays will receive prizes as follows:
1st – Cash prize of Rs. 10,000
2nd – Cash prize of Rs. 5,000
3rd – Cash prize of Rs. 2,000
Consolation – Cash prize of Rs. 1,000 (To be given to 5 candidates, if deserving)

How to submit

The interested candidates may send their essay through email at librarian@smvdu.ac.in latest by August 10 followed by a hard copy of the essay to the Event Coordinator (address given below).
