About the Theme: Contemporary Social, Economic and Legal Challenges Posed by Conflicts

A Conflict is a struggle and a clash of interest, opinion, or even principles. Conflict will always be found in society; as the basis of conflict may vary from personal, racial, class, caste, to political, national or international. Conflict may also be emotional, intellectual, and theoretical, in which case academic recognition may, or may not be significant. Intellectual Conflict is a subclass of Cultural Conflict, a Conflict that tends to grow over time due to different cultural values and beliefs. Traditionally, the term 'Conflict' referred to conflicts between different nations-states and conflicts between people and organizations in different nations. Increasingly, however, it also applies to inter-group conflicts within one country when one group is fighting for independence or increased social, political, or economic power.

National or International Conflicts are conflicts between individuals and/or businesses which just happen to come from two different countries, and conflicts between different National Governments. They are similar in nature to private, domestic, interpersonal or business conflicts except that they are further complicated by multiple factors and an ambiguity in laws which will be applied. As compared to National, International Conflicts tend to be much more difficult to resolve. While this term was originally limited to conflicts between sovereign nation-states, in the last two decades, an increasing number of so-called 'International Conflicts' have actually been inter-group or communal conflicts within one country. In most of these cases, the issue in dispute has been the sovereignty of a particular ethnic group or region, and/or the equality of those ethnic groups in the political, social, and economic structures of their own societies.

Until recently, the concept of sovereignty suggested that other nations should not become embroiled in such 'internal' disputes. However, the human costs and changing values have made international intervention in these 'Domestic Conflicts' increasingly common.

The International Conference aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for world-class academicians, policymakers, professionals, research scholars, students and people from many different fields and interests to discuss and exchange ideas about Social, Economic and Legal aspects of Conflict, in a broad way, from both Internal and International perspectives. The Conference will provide an opportunity to discuss current and future ideas and directions, research and international developments in the concerned areas, facilitating cooperation between various professionals from different countries as well as cross-fertilizing diverse areas of interest.
