  • Additional members are not eligible for hospitality or awards.
  • The researcher may argue as Speaker with National Administrator's permission.

MMY National Client Counseling Competition

About the Competition

The MMY National Client Counseling Competition aims to promote awareness and interest in counselling and preventative law among law students. It encourages the development of interviewing, planning, and analytical skills necessary for effective lawyer-client interactions. This competition provides a platform for students, law professors, and legal professionals to exchange knowledge and ideas, enhancing their abilities in various aspects of client counselling.

Eligibility

Open to students of three-year and five-year law degree courses from any University/Law School/College/Department.

Mode of Competition

Offline.

Team Composition

Each team shall consist of TWO members only.

Theme

The problem for the Client Counselling will be based on any of these subject areas: Family Law, Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

Format of the Competition

  • Participants will conduct an interview with a person playing the role of the client (Provided by the Host Organization).
  • Elicit relevant information from the client, outline the nature of the problem, and explore legal avenues for solutions.
  • Post-consultation period for analysis and discussion of legal and other work (35 minutes total).
  • Finalists receive extra time of 10 minutes with the client in the final round.
  • Consultation and post-consultation may utilize books, notes, and other materials.

Rounds

  • Preliminary Round: All teams compete, top 10 scoring teams advance.
  • Semi-Final Round: Top 10 teams from Preliminary Round compete, top 3 advance.
  • Final Round: Top 3 teams from Semi-Final Round compete, winner and runners-up declared.

Rules for the Competition

  • Judges' decisions are final.
  • Ethical and professional conduct is expected.
  • No scouting allowed; electronic devices prohibited.
  • Organizers' decisions on uncovered situations are final.
  • Non-compliance may result in penalties or disqualification.

Dress Code

Participants should wear Formal Attire during the competition.
