The Maharashtra Judicial Reforms Council, NJRC is organizing a webinar on the topic “Scrutinization of Judicial Exposition in the Skin-to-Skin Verdict by Bombay High Court." on 8th March, 2024, on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

About - Maharashtra Judicial Reforms Council

The National Judicial Reforms Council, operating under the Women’s Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (WICCI), is a non-profit organization committed to fostering positive changes in the judicial system. Established in 2012, we have expanded our presence across the nation through state and union territory councils, including the Maharashtra Judicial Reforms Council. The Council primarily focuses on the empowerment of women through the various events that it organizes and via the projects that it undertakes. We understand that women's issues need to be discussed not in isolation, but in the social context, and, therefore, we also focus on the allied pressing issues prevalent in the society.

AIM – The Council aims to

  • Bring about a radical change in the awareness level amongst the general masses about such issues.
  • Identify the persisting lacunae in society but also to take positive steps towards bridging such loopholes.
  • Continually strive to realize the vision and mission of this organization. This involves delving deeper into lesser-discussed topics and taboos in society to normalize them and provide justice in the true sense of reforms.

About the Discussion

This webinar will explore the nuances of the skin–to–skin verdict from an expert’s perspective while analysing its lacunae. A bench of Justices UU Lalit, S Ravindra Bhat and Bela Trivedi (Supreme Court) said restricting the meaning of "touch" to "skin-to-skin" contact would lead to "narrow and absurd interpretation" and destroy the intent of the Act, which was enacted to protect children from sexual offences. You are cordially invited to engage in this webinar, gain a comprehensive understanding and elevate your perspective on this verdict.

Guest Speaker

The Guest Speaker of the webinar will be Ms. Geeta Luthra, Sr. Adv, Supreme Court of India.

Ms. Geeta Luthra is a designated Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court. She was awarded the prestigious Inlaks Foundation Scholarship for Law at Cambridge University where she pursued an LL. M and an M. Phil. in International Law.

Currently, she is the Vice President of the Indian Council of Arbitration, Member ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, India Chapter Core committee, Member of International Academy of Family Lawyers.

She has served as a sole arbitrator in many cases of domestic and international arbitration and has argued on behalf of various Public Sector Units in the Energy and infrastructure sector and Private Companies in arbitral disputes.
