1. International Labour Day

On 1st May 2022, International Workers' Day, also known as Labour Day in most countries, is observed annually. In India, Labour Day was first celebrated in 1923 by the Labour Kisan Party.

2. Centre appoints Justices Sudhanshu Dhulia as SC judges

On 7th May 2022, the Central govt notified the appointments of Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Gujarat High Court judge Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala, as the judges of the Supreme Court. Justice Dhulia will be the 2nd Judge to be elevated from Uttarakhand High Court. Justice Pardiwala will be the 4th Parsi to adorn the bench of the Supreme Court and have a tenure of about 2 yrs.

3. Jammu and Kashmir delimitation Panel

On 7th May 2022, the final orders of the J&K delimitation panel were signed. The orders aim at redrawing the assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir. Retired Justice Ranjana Desai heads the commission.

4. Yoon Suk Yeol sworn in as President of South Korea

On 10th May 2022, Yoon Suk Yeol was sworn in as President ushering in the country's first conservative government in five years.

5. President confers 13 Shaurya Chakras

On 10th May 2022, President Ram Nath Kovind, who is the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, conferred 13 Shaurya Chakras including six posthumously. The awards were presented to the Armed Forces personnel during Defence Investiture Ceremony (Phase1) in New Delhi.

6. Danish Siddiqui among 4 Indians honoured with Pulitzer Prize

Announced on 10th May 2022, Photojournalist Danish Siddiqui is among four Indians honoured with the prestigious Pulitzer Prize 2022 in the feature photography category. This is for the second time that Siddiqui has won the Pulitzer Prize.

7. Deepika Padukone, as 1st Indian brand ambassador of Louis Vuitton

On 11th May 2022, Actress Deepika Padukone became the first-ever Indian brand ambassador of the luxury brand Louis Vuitton.

8. Supreme Court puts 152-year-old colonial-era sedition law on hold

On 11th May 2022, The Supreme Court ordered that the 152-year-old sedition law under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code should be effectively kept abeyance until the Union Government reconsiders the provision. The Court also held that those already booked under Section 124A IPC and in jail could appeal the concerned courts for bail.

9. India elected as new Chair of AAEA for 2022-24

On 11th May 2022, India was unanimously elected as the new Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) for 2022-2024. It was elected at the Executive Board and General Assembly meeting in Manila, Philippines.

10. Rajiv Kumar appointed Chief Election Commissioner of India

On 12th May 2022, Rajiv Kumar was appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner of the Election Commission of India (ECI) with effect from 15 May 2022.

11. Nidhi Chibber appointed CBSE Chairperson, Vivek Kumar as REC CMD

On 13th May 2022, Senior IAS officer Nidhi Chibber was appointed Chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Vivek Kumar Dewangen, a 1993 batch IAS officer of Manipur cadre, has been named CMD, REC Ltd., Ministry of Power.

12. President of India appoints 9 Advocates as Judges of the Delhi High Court

On 13th May 2022, The President of India appointed nine Advocates as Judges of the Delhi High Court. Ms. Tara Vitasta Ganju, Ms. Mini Pushkarna, Mr. Vikas Mahajan, Mr. Tushar Rao Gedela, Ms. Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora, Mr. Sachin Datta, Mr. Amit Mahajan, Mr. Gaurang Kanth, and Mr. Saurabh Banerjee have been appointed as Judges of the Delhi High Court.

13. Ram Baboo Prasad takes over as the new Director (Technical) of CCL

On 14th May 2022, Ram Baboo Prasad took over as the new Director (technical) of Central Coalfields Ltd (CCL).

14. Amit Shah opens National Cyber Forensic Lab in Hyderabad

On 14th May 2022, Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the 'National Cyber Forensic Laboratory' (NCFL) at Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) campus in Hyderabad. The NCFL will speed up the process for the disposal of cybercrime cases in the country. The lab has been set up under the Cyber and Information Security Division MHA.

15. Manik Saha sworn in as Chief Minister of Tripura

On 15th May 2022, Manik Saha took oath as the 11th Chief Minister of Tripura.

16. Former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds passes away

On 15th May 2022, Former Australia cricketer and two-time World Cup winner Andrew Symonds passed away. He featured in 198 ODIs scoring six centuries and 30 half-centuries while also contributing 133 wickets with his more than handy off-spin and medium pace.

17. India wins first Thomas Cup title, beats Indonesia 3-0

On 15th May 2022, India won its maiden Thomas Cup title beating 14-time champion Indonesia 3-0 in the final in Bangkok. World championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen defeated Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

18. Elisabeth Borne appointed as France's new Prime Minister

On 16th May 2022, Elisabeth Borne was appointed France's new PM. She became only the second woman in history to hold the post.

19. Rajasthan's Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary notified as a tiger reserve

On 16th May 2022, The Ramgarh Vishdhari Sanctuary in Rajasthan was notified as India's 52nd tiger reserve.

20. BSE appoints SS Mundra as Chairman

On 17th May 2022, the Stock exchange BSE approved the appointment of S. S. Mundra, Public Interest Director as the Chairman of the board of directors of the company, subject to the approval of SEBI. He retired as Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India on 30 July 2017 after completing a stint of three years.

21. Cannes Film Festival opens in France on 17 May 2022

On 17th May 2022, The 75th Cannes Film festival 2022 opened in France and will continue till May 28. India is the official country of Honour in this edition of the festival. This is the first time that this honour has been bestowed on any country.

22. Manisha Moun and Parveen win bronze in the Women's Boxing Championship

On 20th May 2022, Paytm founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma was re-appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Paytm. He has been reappointed to the post for a period of five years with effect from December 19, 2022.

26. IFS Vivek Kumar appointed as Private Secretary to PM Modi

30. Uttarakhand has become the first Indian state to roll out drones in the healthcare sector

On 23rd May 2022, Redcliffe Labs, a division of Redcliffe Lifetech in the United States, developed the first commercial drone flight in the medical sector in India. The company has opened a commercial drone corridor between Uttarkashi and Dehradun.
