New Delhi, India - April 19, 2024: In a historic moment of academic reflection and forward-thinking, the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, celebrating 100 Years of Faculty of Law organised a National Conference on Implementation of Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in Contemporary Legal Education 2024. This milestone event, conducted in collaboration with the Bhartiya Bhasha Abhiyan, serves as a testament to the Faculty of Law's enduring commitment to academic excellence and innovation in legal pedagogy.

Welcome Address by Prof. (Dr.) Anju Vali Tikoo, Head & Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi

The inauguration ceremony, a symbol of enlightenment and progress, commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by distinguished guests and luminaries in the field of law and academia. Prof. (Dr.) Anju Vali Tikoo, Head & Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, set the stage for the conference with a heartfelt welcome address, reflecting on the Faculty's illustrious legacy and its pivotal role in shaping legal education in India over the past century.

About the Conference: The mega conference will have ten technical sessions on difference subthemes where as many as 123 researchers from different parts of the country will present their papers. These technical sessions will be chaired by eminent legal luminaries of the country.

Address by Special Guest Hon’ble Mr. Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan

Hon’ble Mr Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan, Chairman of the Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal and Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India, delivered a thought-provoking address, emphasizing the intrinsic value of Vedic Jurisprudence and its relevance in contemporary legal discourse. Drawing inspiration from ancient Indian epics such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana, Justice Chauhan underscored the importance of implementing traditional wisdom into modern legal education.

Address by Guest of Honour Shri Atul Kothari

Dr. Atul Kothari, Professor of Practice at the Centre University of Himachal Pradesh, stressed the need to embrace linguistic diversity and learn law in one's mother tongue. Dr. Kothari's impassioned plea for cultural inclusivity resonated deeply with the audience, highlighting the inseparable connection between language, culture, and legal identity.

Address by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Singh

Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Singh, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, delivered an inspiring address, congratulating the Faculty of Law on its century-long journey of academic excellence. Prof. Singh called for a paradigm shift in legal education, advocating for a duty-based approach rooted in values such as humility, compassion, and social responsibility. He emphasized the Faculty of Law's pivotal role in shaping the future of legal education, urging the implementation of new criminal laws in the curriculum in the coming semester.
