Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Manchanda, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, attended the valedictory session of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Law University’s fourteen-day Samvidhan Diwas celebrations as the Distinguished Guest of Honour. The event, held from 22 November to 6 December, marked the conclusion of an insightful two-week journey dedicated to India’s constitutional values and democratic framework.

A Fortnight of Constitutional Engagement at DBRANLU

The celebrations at DBRANLU were designed to encourage long-term engagement with constitutional thought, fostering discussions among legal scholars, practitioners, and students. Over the course of fourteen days, the university hosted a range of academic activities exploring the evolution, relevance, and impact of the Constitution of India. Justice Deepak Manchanda’s presence at the closing session added academic depth and judicial perspective to the programme.

Constitution as a Living Framework — Not Just a Textbook

During his address, Justice Manchanda emphasized that the "Constitution must be understood beyond theory". He called it a living document that continues to shape every layer of legal practice and judicial functioning in the country. He encouraged students to cultivate practical awareness of constitutional provisions, reminding them that behind every court decision stands a constitutional principle in action. His session saw active participation from the student community, transforming the valedictory into an engaging learning experience.

Encouraging Young Legal Minds

Justice Manchanda advised aspiring lawyers to approach constitutional law with curiosity and analytical depth. He stressed that an advocate’s understanding of the Constitution should be rooted in its application in real-life situations and courtroom realities rather than remaining confined to academic pages.

Appreciation for University Leadership

Towards the end of his address, Justice Deepak Manchanda commended the efforts of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Devinder Singh and Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Ashutosh Mishra for successfully organizing such an extensive and well-structured celebration. Their leadership, he noted, reflected DBRANLU’s commitment to producing constitutionally aware and socially responsible legal professionals.

This year’s Samvidhan Diwas commemoration concluded as a powerful reminder of the importance of constitutional literacy, marking yet another milestone in DBRANLU’s journey of academic excellence and nation-building through legal education.
