About the Symposium
Sustainability standards have become a defining feature of modern cross-border trade governance, directly influencing market access, supply chains, and regulatory compliance worldwide. With the European Union emerging as a global norm-setter through instruments such as the European Green Deal, Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), due-diligence directives, and sustainable supply-chain regulations, trade partners like India face both opportunities and challenges in aligning with evolving global standards.
This three-day international online symposium brings together leading academicians, legal scholars, policymakers, trade practitioners, industry stakeholders, and civil society representatives to critically examine the legal architecture of sustainability standards in international trade. The discussions will focus on how domestic laws, WTO disciplines, international trade agreements, and private regulatory regimes interact to promote or, at times, constrain sustainable trade practices.
