Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) is organizing CLEA Mooting (South Asia Rounds) Competition, 2022 from 10th to 12th November 2022.

About the Event

The Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) has been organizing the CLEA Moot Court Competition in which student teams from universities in the Commonwealth compete for the 'Commonwealth Shield'.

For the year 2022, the National Round for India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh is being conducted by the Mar Gregorios College of Law, Trivandrum from 10th to 12th November 2022. The winning team of the national round will represent India in the Commonwealth Moot, i.e., the seventeenth Commonwealth Moot-2023 to be held in conjunction with the 21st Commonwealth Law Conference 2023.

About the Organisation

Mar Gregorios College of Law is envisioned as an institute of excellence in legal education. The college was established in 2012 as another milestone in the glorious Mar Ivanios Vidyanagar Campus which was founded in 1949 by the Servant of God Archbishop Geevarghese Mar Ivanios.

Mar Gregorios College of Law is one of the pioneers and sought-after institutions in its field in the State. The college is the only college in Kerala accredited by NACC. As a recognition of its contribution to legal education, the College has been conferred with the SILF-MILAT National Institutional Excellence Award 2017 by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) and Menon Institute of Legal and Advocacy Training (MILAT).

About CLEA

The Commonwealth Legal Education Association (CLEA) is a registered charity that was formed in December 1971 with the view to foster high standards in legal education and research in the Commonwealth countries, facilitating contact between interested individuals and organizations and circulating information and literature concerning legal education and research.

The CLEA (South Asia) Chapter of CLEA works with an objective/motto to make legal education socially relevant and professionally useful, particularly through the development of course curriculum and pedagogy focused on innovative methodology.

Eligibility

Students pursuing a 3-Year LL.B. Degree Course or a 5-Year Integrated LL.B. Degree Course from the colleges recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate in the competition (India Rounds).

Registration

The registration fee is INR 5000/-. The registration form is provided in the brochure. Participants are required to fill out this form and send a scanned copy via email to cleamoot@mgcl.ac.in.

The cost of accommodation and food from November 10th – 12th 2022 will be borne by the college.

Awards

  • The National Rounds (India) winning team (only one) and runner-up team (only one) shall be awarded the "CLEA – MGCL" Trophies and Cash Prizes.
  • The winning team shall participate in the Final Rounds of the Commonwealth Moot Court Competition - 2023.
  • Awards for Best Memorial, Best Advocate, and Best Researcher.
  • All participants shall be awarded Certificates of Participation and the winners shall receive Certificates of Merit.
