However, addiction, especially gambling addiction, can be a major problem.

What is it?
Gambling addiction at the core is when you continue to gamble, and you’re unable to stop.
This could be anything from sports betting, roulette, slots, poker, scratch cards, offline and online, and it is when you can’t stop doing this.
You start to feel it interfere with your relationships, your work life, and even your finances. It could cause major debts to form, and you may do harmful things such as stealing money in order to use it for gambling.
You can’t control this usually, and it ends up being a problem for you and for others. This can come in different types of ways.
You’ve got the addiction, which is of course when you can’t stop doing it. There is also problem gambling, which is when you have a problem with the activity and it’s disrupting your life, and it isn’t totally out of control in this case.
It also may be associated with other mental health issues too such as ADHD, stress, bipolar disorder, anxiety, or even depression too.
The symptoms are usually that you’re only focused on gambling. To the point where you refuse to acknowledge everything else.
Usually, this does disrupt your life in some way. For those with addiction, they’ll gamble whether they are feeling good or bad, broke or making a ton of money, and otherwise don’t care about the consequences associated with that, even in those instances when you literally can’t lose.
Usually, you start to spend a lot of money doing this, and will chase losses. You also may do things you normally don’t do, such as stealing, or not looking at the consequences of this.
Usually, whatever you have in life is replaced by gambling. So if you have dreams to be a lawyer, but you’re too preoccupied with gambling, that’s a big problem, and you need to address this problem at the core.
You also may be secretive about this. You might lie about how much you do it, and usually you have trouble controlling this.
And finally, your friends and family worry about you. You will continue to say that this is the end, and you’re denying the issue, when it’s still there.
Solutions to This
There are a few solutions to this. First and foremost, you must understand that you have a problem. You must acknowledge the addiction before you can do anything about it.
There are 12 step programs that help with this, and you could find someone who will help you free yourself from this.
You should also try to strengthen the support network that you’ve got. You should reach out to your family and friends, and start to make new friends that aren’t a part of gambling.
Also, you should learn to figure out why you do this. Do you gamble because you’re bored or lonely? Do you do it because you’re stressed, or after you get into an argument with another person? This could be used to help with reducing those unpleasant emotions, and is used to help unwind. The key here, is to get healthier coping mechanisms, and use those to help manage the problem.
As said before, there may be other problems and triggers underneath it all. This can include stress, depression, abuse of substances, anxiety, and other problems, and your compulsive gambling is irritating that.
