About FDP on Legal Research and Pedagogy

The purpose of this FDP on Legal Research and Pedagogy is to impart knowledge and develop necessary skills in the field of legal education and to enhance the teaching, learning, and research skills of early career researchers and academicians.

The aim of the FDP is to provide the participants with an opportunity to acquire knowledge about contemporary developments that are taking place in various dimensions of Law.

Law, legal education, and development have become interrelated concepts in modern developing societies that are struggling to develop into social welfare states and are seeking to ameliorate the socio-economic condition of the people by peaceful means. The same is true of India. It is the crucial function of legal education to produce lawyers with a social vision in a developing country like India.

1. Legal Education and Changes in Pedagogy: 15th June

Speaker: Prof. (Dr) Shanta Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, Gujarat National Law University

Prof. (Dr.) S. Shanthakumar with about 27 years of teaching experience at prestigious universities including Hidayatullah National Law University. He is an alumnus of Madras University, Chennai, where he earned his graduation, post-graduation, and a doctorate degree in law. Before joining the legal academia, he had practised at the Madras High Court for seven years.

2. Legal Research Methods: 16th June

Speaker: Prof. (Dr) Y F Jaya Kumar, Former Principal, College of Law, Osmania University

Prof. (Dr) Y F Jaya Kumar was Professor and Dean, Faculty of Law, Osmania University, and Satavahana University. He is a visitor to Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police Academy, Marri Chenna Reddy Institute of Human Resources and International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR), Hyderabad.

He is a Life Member of the Indian Institute of Constitution and Parliamentary Studies, and Member of Governing Council of Indian Law Institute. He authored 3 books on “Horizons of Family Law in India”(2017), “Consumer Law and Redressal Mechanism” (2017), and “Human Rights and New Challenges” (2015) and authored a number of Articles in Legal periodicals.

3. Teaching and Research Techniques in Law:

Prof. (Dr) Nishtha Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, Himachal Pradesh National Law University

With over three decades of teaching and research experience, Professor Nishtha Jaswal specialises in Constitutional law, Administrative law, Human Rights, and Environmental law. She has over fifty research papers and at least four books to her credit. She was a gold medalist during her college years. She went on to receive a Visiting Professorship award from the British Academy in 1992.

4. Legal Literature and Research: 18th June

Time: 11:30 – 01:30 PM IST

Prof. (Dr) Versha Vahini, Head of Department, Faculty of Law, Manav Rachna University

Dr. Versha Vahini has over 16 years of teaching and research experience and has worked with Indian Law Institute, New Delhi; NLSIU, Bangalore; NUJS Kolkatta, and NLIU, Bhopal and others. She has also presented and written sundry articles and research papers for various journals.

Her areas of interest include corporate law and competition law. She has authored the book ‘Indian Competition Law’ which has been published by Lexis Nexis and has co-authored a book on the Right to Information Act. She is also the general editor of Ratanlal and Dhirajlal Indian Penal Code, student edition of the Lexis Nexis.

5. Ethics in Legal Research: 19th June

Prof. (Dr) K P S Mahlwar, Chair Professor, NLU Delhi, Member Haryana HEC

Prof. K.P.S. Mahalwar was in teaching and research in law for more than 35 years in M.D.U, Rohtak. His research on liability for medical negligence was the pioneering work in India. He has supervised enormous students in legal research.

He has adorned the offices of Dean of the faculty & Head of the Department of Law at M D University Rohtak. Haryana Government has also appointed him as a member of the Haryana State Higher Education Council. He has been associated with UGC, UPSC, various Universities of India in various capacities.
