About the Webinar

In a democracy as vibrant as India’s, media constitutes the fourth pillar. Media generates a democratic culture that extends beyond the political system and becomes engrained in the public consciousness over time. It supplies the political information that voters base their decisions on. Media serve as a medium for deliberation and serve as watchdogs that we rely on for uncovering errors and wrongdoings by those who have power. Building independent media in developing countries requires more than freedom of speech, skilled journalists, or strong business management skills.

With the changing of political and social scenarios, media gets affected too. Indian news outlets were already biased and blinded, rarely covering the issues which affect society, but as we see it today, media is polarised like never before. ‘Godi Media’ is the term coined for the polarised Indian media which is often accused of peddling the narrative of ruling government and being a lapdog of the Center and the BJP.

This webinar discusses the Godi Media and the Indian democracy while focusing on the impacts which have weakened the foundation of our vibrant democracy.
