The field of fashion law as an emerging area of practice is complex and unique. It covers many areas of law but is solely focused on a specific segment of society.
Fashion lawyers perform a broad range of duties ranging from forming and dissolving business entities, advising on brand development, IP monetization, franchising, merchandising, adverting, protection to drafting, and negotiating contracts in arbitrating and litigating trademark, copyright, and other intellectual property issues, looking into export and import matters related to the Fashion Industry- like making necessary arrangements for securing Import and Export licenses, securing the rights of fashion designers, models, photographers, and other stakeholders.
To become a successful fashion lawyer, one needs to have a thorough understanding of the fashion industry’s legal issues, compliances, and solutions.
About MNLU Mumbai
Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai (MNLU Mumbai) is a National Law University located in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. MNLU Mumbai offers a five-year integrated B.ALL.B.(Hons.) programme and LL.M. Programmes. Students have to qualify for CLAT to secure admission to UG or PG. Admissions are through Common Law Admission Test only. There are 100 seats filled up by CLAT and 20 supernumerary seats are reserved for Foreign National/ NRI/ NRI Sponsored. Two supernumerary seats are reserved for Permanent Residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Justice of India is the Chancellor of the university and Bhavani Prasad Panda was the founder Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university. As of December 2019, Dilip Ukey is the VC. Students have performed well in various fields like Literary and Debating Competitions, Cultural Competitions, Moot Court Competitions, and Alternate Dispute Resolution Competitions. MNLU Mumbai is entered into MoUs with various institutions of international repute including L’Universite’ Paris Nanterre and Berlin School of Economics and Law (BSEL), Germany and thereby facilitating regular student exchange programmes with the prestigious University.
About MNLU Mumbai Diploma in Fashion Law
In the process of enhancing its academic horizon, Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai is coming up with a new course under the active guidance of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Ukey. The University is introducing Diploma Programmes from the year 2021 as professional boosters to practising advocates and other professionals.
Objectives
The “Fashion Law” courses are designed to provide participants with the most up-to-date practical information, benchmarks, and industry expertise on the most important areas of legal frameworks and perspectives in the fashion and luxury industries. Starting with an overview of the industry, including legal compliance of fashion brands, intellectual property, and specific agreements, the course will focus on all major stages of the fashion lifecycle and promote applied framework to the fashion and luxury industry.
Fee Structure
- Course fee: Rs. 15,000/- or Rs. 20,000/- (Payable in 2 instalments)
- Fees once paid will not be refunded
