About Dr. R.U. Singh Memorial National Judgement Writing Competition

Faculty of Law, University of Lucknow is organising 1st Dr. R.U. Singh Memorial National Online Judgement Writing Competition. The objective of this Competition is for the students to approach a factual matrix from the point of view of a judge, apply the law, and render a judgment. The student shall be expected to think like a judge and reach a well-reasoned conclusion.

About the Art of Judgment Writing

The art of judgment writing is not seeming easy as communicating the real intent to both the parties in order to satiate them consumes both time and energy. But at times if the judges are clear and liberal in their judgments then the parties accept the judgment without being sceptical. The decision of the Court shall clearly state the admitted facts, principles of law applied, and direction to the parties. For the decision to become acceptable the judgment delivered should be clear and just.

As the law is dynamic so is the skill of judgment writing. In the modern world, judgment writing is continuously changing, the archaic legal jargon is avoided so as to render a more viable judgment. Similarly, the concept of the footnote is improving day by day. At the end of the day, judges play a pivotal role in writing their judgments as it is their cognizance which leads to delivery of the judgment
